Spring Break in Hawaii

Hawaii 0422.jpgFortunately for us J’s parents live in the beautiful state of Hawaii.  The only bad thing about that is that the flight is 8 1/2 hours from Dallas and another 2 from Nashville. So despite numb rear ends and no meals on the airplane we made it to Hawaii where the weather is always clear and 85, or so J’s dad likes to say, but with us things are always different. Our first day found it raining and overcast, but we did get up early (4am) with the five hour time difference and saw three rainbows that morning. Due to the weather we took the sight seeing and visited the North shore (where LOST is filmed), The Dole Plantation(we learned how pineapples are grown and had pineapple ice-cream), and local shops. The rest of the week found us snorkeling in Hanauma Bay, surfing(or attempting to) at Waikiki, sea kayaking, and hiking.  Other adventures included Pearl Harbor, finding J some malasadas(Portuguese donuts), visiting craters, and our all time favorite of hanging out at Lanikai beach(a 5 minute walk from the house and is noted by the travel channel as the #1 beach in the country). Joscelyn’s favorite was being able to read 3 books on the trip without having to memorize anything in them. Like all vacations it came to an end all too quickly. Oh, I forgot to mention that at 2am in the LA airport on our way home we came within 3 feet of Patrick Dempsey.

Lucky in Kentucky

IMG_1652.jpgThree hours in the car and driving through miles of pasture we found ourselves in Lexington, Kentucky. One of Joscelyn’s bridesmaids, April and her husband Ed had just moved to Lexington to start work full time in the ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ. Winter in Nashville was becoming some what boring so we talked them into entertaining us for a weekend. We toured the University of Kentucky and horse farms but the most important thing of the weekend was that I got to play Guitar Hero while April and Joscelyn got to catch up on some much needed girl time. We found out how talented April is at scrapbooking as she had made us a scrapbook of our wedding..thanks April!! Well, til next time……..
