COPPER MOUNTAIN
Copper was another mountain we could buy 1 get 1 free. So, before Joscelyn started work, we wanted to ski during the week. When we arrived, I could tell the mountain was worked pretty hard from President’s Day weekend. It was a challenge to find any untouched snow. Any time I thought we found the stash, moguls appeared. We stayed together until lunch. After lunch Joscelyn wanted to stay on the groomers while I checked out the back bowls. I was finally able to find some powder! I did however have to hike for it. I guess you have to earn your turns!!
HOOKY DAY AT LOVELAND
Hooky Day at Loveland was sponsored by a local radio station which allowed us to ski for $10, what a deal! Most people had to play hooky from work since it was on a Thursday but since I have not started work yet and J has yet to find a job it wasn’t a hooky day for us but we sure took advantage of it!! It was a bluebird day with a few inches of fresh powder, temperatures close to 0 at the summit and in the 30’s at the base and no lift lines, an all around perfect day!! I decided to break out my snowboard for the first time this year and though the skill came back quickly, much like riding a bike, my triceps were sore from pushing myself off the ground after strapping my boots in. Maybe I just need to work on those triceps, I sure don’t want that second wave coming along any time soon!
BRITT’S TRIP
Brittany, Joscelyn’s sister, came to visit us the past few days. Not only was this her first visit to Colorado but it was also her first plane ride. Our first night included dinner in Boulder and shopping on Pearl Street. The next day we went skiing at Winter Park, skiing was also a first for Britt. We didn’t know how the day was going to go when we first arrived as Britt was already complaining about how cold it was and we hadn’t even made it to the village area yet. Much to her credit, she did well for her first time ever on skis. She became very proficient in the pizza wedge. She was picking up speed until she had a bad crash on a blue run, yes a blue on the first day, and then it went down hill from there. The day also included some shopping as Britt can’t go anywhere without finding a deal.
Our next day found us shopping some more and then taking a trip up to Evergreen to visit with the cousins for a little ice skating and chowing down on some pizza. We met up with Brent (Jos and Britt’s cousin) and Claire and their two kids Jackson and Ethan. Britt found her niche on the frozen lake while Joscelyn took a little while to gain some speed. I got to get back to my roots and hit a puck around with Brent for some time while the girls and kids went in to warm up and get some hot chocolate. Though this was a short trip for Britt we had a blast and look forward to her next visit, which she says will be in April?!?!
WE SKI LOVELAND
I would like to start out by saying…..I have my wife back!!!! After two years of school work and studying she found out today that she passed her boards and is officially a RN!!! We decided that this deserved a celebration so we went to ski where the locals go. There was plenty of fresh powder and 30 dollar lift tickets weren’t bad either. Loveland reminded us of Bridger except with a lot more traffic in getting there. We managed to get out just in time as about an hour after we left Interstate 70 was shut down in both directions. This was Joscelyn’s first attempt at skiing, since she usually snowboards, and she did well though I can’t wait to hear her complain about how sore she is tomorrow.
